In March 2009, the the Institute released Version 1 of the Code of Conduct for its Members. The Code was developed with the active involvement of a Sub-Committee that was comprised of recognized experts from a broad spectrum of the GHG management field. The process for the development of the Code took almost a year and involved an open and wide consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

Development of the Code of Conduct
Step 1: Development of Working Draft 1 From March 2008 until September 2008, a working draft of the Code of Conduct (“Code”) was prepared by Institute staff on the basis of research of codes in such disciplines as engineering and accounting, among others.
Step 2: Formation of Sub-Committee and Advisory Group in September 2008, the Institute formed a sub-committee of members that have demonstrated through practice, a high level of professional excellence. At the same time, a broader advisory group was established.
Step 3: Working Draft 1 Review and Development of Working Draft 2 From September 2008 until November 2008, Working Draft 1 was reviewed by the sub-committee members and Working Draft 2 was prepared for public consultation.
Step 4: Public Consultation From December 2008 until February 2009, the public was invited to provide comments on Working Draft 2 using an online questionnaire to systematically compile and the assess input.
Step 5: Assessment of Public Comments and Development of Final Draft Based on the results of the public consultation, a final draft was prepared and submitted to the sub-committee members for review and comment.
Step 6: Release of Version 1 of the Code of Conduct after one year of development, consultations with leading GHG practitioners and the public. The Institute released its Code of Conduct in March 2009.
