Questions regarding prerequisites and pursuing a career in the carbon management field.
No specific undergraduate training is required to take courses with the Institute. However, the training we provide does assume a certain level of technical and economics background. Learners should be comfortable with basic math, engineering concepts and chemistry. The course work is interdisciplinary.
The field is rapidly growing and already has a severe shortage of those with expertise. So there are definitely jobs to be had.
If you register for a course with the Institute, you are automatically provided with a Basic member account; as a GHGMI Member, you will have access to our Green Jobs board, and can also interact with professionals in the field through the GHG Forum. For more information on the GHGMI Membership program, please click here.
You would certainly be able to say that you’d received a Certificate of Proficiency or Training from the Institute; however, certification is another matter entirely. GHG Management Institute has partnered with ECO Canada to offer the Environmental Professional in Greenhouse Gas – EP(GHG) – designation, which is available to professionals who have been working 5 or more years in the areas of GHG quantification or verification. In addition, the Environmental Professional in Training – Greenhouse Gas designation, or EPt(GHG) is available to professionals with less than 5 years of experience who have completed post-secondary education and specific GHG training, and are working or would like to work in the field of GHG reporting.
