Tim Stumhofer, Program Associate

Tim is responsible for expanding the reach and impact of the Institute’s programs. Supporting Institute membership and professional initiatives, Tim provides key strategic coordination.

Prior to joining GHGMI staff, Stumhofer focused on matters relating to governance, education, and implementation in the global voluntary carbon market.

Tim’s active participation in carbon trading began with postgraduate study under the architects of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate ChangeĀ (http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/sternreview_index.htm) at the London School of Economics (LSE) concurrent to the seminal report’s 2006 release. He concluded this course of inquiry with dissertation research on the British government’s Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting (http://offsetting.defra.gov.uk/), a code of best practice for the voluntary carbon market administered by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Stumhofer previously worked in the U.S. voluntary carbon market as a Carbon Market Analyst for Climate Clean, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. At Climate Clean Tim headed a range of diverse initiatives relating to offset procurement, policy and government affairs, and corporate GHG management and communications.

He has also contributed to regulatory analysis at the intersection of land use policy and environmental protection for 1000 Friends of Oregon and held a number of political leadership and organizing positions.

Tim holds a BA in Politics with Economics from Willamette University and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from LSE. He also studied environmental economics and international politics at the University of New Hampshire and the National University of Ireland, Galway.
