GHGMI hosted a panel discussion, facilitated by Dr. Michael Gillenwater, surrounding the advanced issues in and complexities of GHG accounting. The event on Wednesday, September 11, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM Pacific Time drew 465 attendees for an unrecorded and semi-structured panel discussion.
The event featured a conversation among Dr. Gillenwater and our panelists, who represented diverse perspectives on addressing some of the most prevalent challenges in current GHG accounting practices, as applied to corporate GHG reporting and target setting. Not surprisingly, issues related to Scope 3 emissions estimation and the potential for a new intervention impact reporting framework were a focus of the discussion.
Our panelists included:
- Michael Gillenwater, Executive Director, Co-Founder, and Dean at the GHG Management Institute (GHGMI)
- Avi Allison, Carbon Portfolio Strategy Lead at Microsoft
- Cynthia Cummis, Audit & Assurance Sustainability and Climate Specialist Leader at Deloitte
- Derik Broekhoff, Senior Scientist at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)
- Jon Alcock, Manager, Supply Chain Innovation at Verra
- Matthew Brander, Personal Chair of Carbon Accounting at the University of Edinburgh
- Nathan Truitt, Executive Vice President, Climate Funding at the American Forest Foundation (AFF)
- Tim Juliani, Director, US Corporate Climate Engagement at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
