Justin Coughlin

Justin Coughlin is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute, focusing on spatial analytics and machine learning for GHG data and MRV systems. He leads development of approaches and tools to streamline national reporting for the Land Use, Land Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) sector.

He has over a decade of experience in environmental modeling, geospatial analysis, emissions monitoring, policy development, and program management. Justin has previously worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service, and applied research consulting firms, where he focused on forest carbon modeling, natural and working lands initiatives, methane emissions from the oil and gas sector, and air quality policy.

Justin is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Forest Ecosystems & Society at Oregon State University and holds an M.S. in Environmental Science and B.S. in Environmental Geology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on forest carbon and air pollution, technical reports and policy documents on methane emissions and environmental justice, and volunteers with several conservation organizations.
