The Sectoral Activity Data for GHG Emissions (SAGE) platform is a first-of-its-kind, platform that streamlines activity data gathering and processing, reduces errors early on, and generates essential documentation needed for GHG inventory estimations, projections, and mitigation assessment.

Existing GHG estimation tools often assume that activity data is readily available in a standardized, precise format and expressed in particular units of measurement. However, in practice, data providers rarely supply primary data in the exact formats needed for GHG estimation. As a result, GHG emissions inventory compilers and mitigation analysts frequently need to develop ad-hoc methods and tools (such as spreadsheets) to transform messy, raw statistical data into clean, usable data necessary for emissions calculation, projections, and reporting.

SAGE is an innovative platform that eases data gathering, reduces errors early on, and produces indispensable documentation—for GHG inventories, GHG projections, and mitigation impact quantification.

SAGE also steers users through the difficult work of identifying and filling in their data gaps and conducting data quality control checks, all in line with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) good practices.

Funding from the UNFCCC supported the development of SAGE and allowed for SAGE to be freely available to all potential users. This makes it easy for you to try the platform before committing.

SAGE is made available by the UNFCCC Secretariat upon request and approval by your UNFCCC focal point. SAGE will not be shared for commercial purposes.

There are so many tools – is SAGE recreating the wheel?

No! SAGE does not replace other tools for estimating GHG emissions or removals. SAGE fills the critical gap that exists in managing activity data and other GHG information before you calculate emissions.
