GHG Management Institute and ECO Canada Convene Technical Working Group to Guide New GHG Professional Certification
We’re excited to announce the launch of a technical working group to support the development of a new professional designation. The Environmental Professional in Greenhouse Gas—EP(GHG)—is a certification designed to set the benchmark for excellence in greenhouse gas (GHG) management, which will be launched in late 2025.
The development of EP(GHG) is through a partnership between the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI) and ECO Canada. Together, we’re creating a rigorous, credible, and inclusive certification that meets the growing need for qualified professionals in GHG accounting, reporting, and verification.
Why EP(GHG)?
As climate action accelerates, there’s an urgent demand for competent and ethical GHG professionals. The EP(GHG) designation will provide a trusted credential that validates an individual’s education, experience, and skills through a competency-based assessment process grounded in internationally informed occupational standards.
Role of the Technical Working Group
The working group plays a critical role in shaping this certification by providing expert input and sector-informed guidance. Specifically, members will:
- Review key program documents, including eligibility requirements, occupational standards, and assessment processes for applicants
- Provide feedback on how to ensure the program reflects real-world GHG work and professional standards
- Offer insight into additional program elements such as high-quality training criteria and core exam knowledge areas
Who Is in the Technical Working Group?
The working group consists of experienced professionals from diverse sectors, including:
- Current and former EPs with GHG expertise
- Distinguished GHGMI alumni
- Representatives from companies and government agencies with expertise in GHG management and policy
- Environmental consultants and auditors working in GHG quantification, verification, and validation
- Academics and researchers in climate and GHG management
