Peru’s GHG inventory team receives training on IPCC Guidelines

In order to progress the transparent reporting goals outlined in the Paris Agreement, Peru’s greenhouse gas inventory team is working with GHGMI to administer training for 25 participants in the use of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. This project utilizes a blended approach to education, encapsulating two main phases in order to achieve superior learning outcomes.

The first phase of this project includes online IPCC Guidelines curriculum, comprised of the introductory 501 IPCC: Introduction to Cross-Cutting Issues course, and coupled with the participant’s choice of sector (i.e. energy, waste, industrial processes and other product use, forestry and other land uses, or agriculture). Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the associated course examinations to ensure comprehensive learning of key concepts and proficiency of subject matter. Upon successful completion of these examinations, participants will be awarded with a globally- recognized GHGMI Certificate as a GHG inventory expert.

Following completion of the online course series, participants from Peru’s inventory team will engage in a two-day in-country applied workshop to reinforce the material learned in the online training. GHGMI’s faculty, Pepa Lopez, will deliver this in-person workshop, which will be composed of practical exercises to estimate GHG emissions, support data analysis, and/or drafting elements of a GHG inventory report.
