The Sectoral Activity Data for GHG Emissions (SAGE) Platform

SAGE is a first-of-its-kind tool that streamlines the collection and processing of activity data, minimizes errors early in the process, and produces essential documentation for greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory estimates, projections, and mitigation assessments.

Activity Data Management

Existing GHG estimation tools often assume that activity data is readily available in a standardized, precise format with specific units of measurement. In reality, however, data providers rarely deliver primary data in the exact formats required for GHG estimation. As a result, emissions inventory compilers and mitigation analysts frequently need to create ad-hoc methods and tools (such as spreadsheets) to convert messy, raw data into clean, usable inputs for emissions calculations, projections, and reporting.

The Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI) sought to develop a tool to streamline this process. SAGE guides users through the challenging process of identifying and addressing data gaps, as well as performing data quality control checks, all by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) best practices.
