We are pleased to invite you to participate in the second of a 4-part guest-speaker webinar series devoted to discussing Emission Trading Systems (ETS), a key topic following the recent climate agreement in Paris. These webinars accompany a new free online course from the European Commission, which provides in-depth instruction on ETS theory and design.
Webinar 2 | February 16th, 2016 | 15:00 CET (9:00 am EST)
In this 45-minute webinar, The Past, Present and Future of ETSs, guest speaker Damien Meadows (European Commission) will discuss the evolution of existing carbon markets forecast the future of emerging emission trading systems around the world. Mr. Meadows will deliver a candid discussion of what building the EU ETS was like and will comment on the utility of ETSs in the INDCs proposed at the climate summit (COP21) in Paris. For those currently taking the European Commission’s online course, this topic is most relevant to Units 5 and 6.

Forthcoming webinars include:
- Webinar 3 – Developing Countries (February 2016) This webinar will feature an expert from an emerging economy to comment on experiences in becoming ETS “market ready.” The speaker will provide unique examples of capacity gaps that were overcome and others that remain a challenge.
