Ralph Strebel has been a GHGMI board member since 2007 and has served as Chairperson of the Board since 2019. Ralph is a lawyer and a climate change professional with extensive experience in developing forest and wetland-based carbon projects in Southeast Asia and West Africa. He has led the development of several exceptional undertakings, including Africa’s first Improved Forest Management project in the Republic of Congo in 2013 and one of the most expansive wetlands REDD+ projects in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Since 2008, Ralph has worked in the area of REDD+ and Nature-Based Solutions. He has a comprehensive understanding of forest-based climate change policy, spanning the development of small-scale private projects to large-scale jurisdictional land-based emission reduction and removal initiatives, primarily in tropical forests and wetlands. He has assisted with the development of national baselines, understands the legal aspects and requirements of such projects, and has guided the end-to-end development of several forest-based voluntary carbon market projects.

Additionally, Ralph is a licensed attorney in Colorado and Arizona, as well as a qualified solicitor in England and Wales. Ralph’s past legal experience focused on litigation matters in state and federal courts, as well as acting as corporate counsel for several climate change startups. In addition to his duties as a board member, Ralph also serves as in-house counsel for GHGMI, providing support for a range of corporate and business matters.
