GHGMI is proud to announce this year’s recipient of its annual full scholarship, awarded to an outstanding student pursuing the Diploma in Carbon Management and demonstrating strong potential to contribute to global climate action.
Each year, GHGMI provides one full scholarship to a high-achieving individual pursuing professional development in greenhouse gas (GHG) management, with support from its Scholarship Fund donors. This award is part of the Institute’s broader commitment to building global capacity and empowering professionals with the skills needed to address climate change.
This year’s recipient is Charles Matewere, who is currently enrolled in the Diploma in Carbon Management, one of GHGMI’s flagship training programs. With a clear vision for impact, Charles aims to apply his knowledge to advancing carbon projects in Malawi and across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The Diploma in Carbon Management equips participants with practical expertise in GHG accounting, emissions reduction strategies, and carbon project development. Through a structured, real-world-focused curriculum, students gain the tools needed to support climate initiatives across sectors and geographies.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Charles shared:
“Being awarded the full scholarship for the Diploma in Carbon Management with GHGMI is truly a gateway to my future in carbon management. This program represents not just an academic opportunity but a career-defining path that will enable me to drive meaningful impact in managing carbon projects in Malawi, across the SADC region, and beyond. The knowledge and skills I am gaining will strengthen my establishment as a carbon consultant in Malawi, empowering me to contribute to sustainable development and climate action at both local and regional levels. The program is exceptionally well structured, and the support from staff and tutors has been invaluable. I am proud and grateful to be part of this important initiative, and I look forward to transforming this opportunity into tangible climate solutions that benefit communities and the environment.”
In addition to the full scholarship, GHGMI offers a range of partial financial awards each year to support a diverse, global cohort of learners. These initiatives help ensure that professionals from different regions and backgrounds can access high-quality training in carbon management and climate mitigation.
By investing in emerging leaders, GHGMI continues to strengthen the global community of practitioners working to measure, manage, and reduce GHG emissions—thereby supporting meaningful, long-term climate solutions at both the local and international levels.
